A Sun pillar

I am posting this Feb 2 but this photo is from January 19.

I am working on a new site as my beloved iMac is wearing out and not capable of all that it has been able to do in the past,

This has been a pretty dull winter in terms of lack of sunlight, and it was rare sunset in itself, and it was made spectacular by the column.

This has a technical explanation related to ice crystals in the air.  An explanation can be found by clicking here.

“They’re called sun pillars when the sun helps make them. But the moon or even streetlights can create this light phenomenon, too, in which case the name light pillar is more appropriate,” says earthsky.org.

It is a wonderous and beautiful thing to see.

I am grateful I got to see it.
